I'd always known the importance of entrepreneurship for my daughter since she was very young, as she seemed to have been born with that "boss personality"...
But then, to my gut wrenched surprise, one day it happened...
"I want to become an actress", she said, having had no interest or experience in acting before, even in high school. And now, even after she had successfully graduated from the University of Florida, here she was looking at me with those hope-filled brown eyes with excitement and anticipation in her heart.
"Well, at least she has her BS degree to fall back on", I thought...
...as if this could have given me reassurance in today's economy. And so, after recuperating from that tremendous blow to the gut that my little girl who had never been out of Florida was moving to Los Angeles, I decided to stand behind her dream. "I hope you get all you set out for", were the words that trembled out of my mouth.
Because after all, I knew the importance of entrepreneurship for her, even though perhaps she had not yet discovered all the types of entrepreneurs available to achieve her dream...
Fortunately, her interest in becoming an actress dwindled as she became aware of the competition she was up against and the lifestyle she did not want to pursue. I say "fortunately" because she decided to come back to Florida and go into business with me in a nutritional network marketing deal. And so began the adventures of both of us in becoming an entrepreneur...
And this is where I learned myself the importance of entrepreneurship as my daughter taught me the art of online marketing...
We never did make a go with that nutritional deal online, because with network marketing, it's really about building relationships that builds the down-line. And conversely, you really need a down-line of hundreds in your team before you start to make any real money. This is a conundrum in the field of network marketing, as many "successful" network marketers have made it in the field by surrendering their business to the level of becoming telemarketers.
But we wanted more than this, so we decided to follow the teachings of the man who had made his millions by marketing 100% online - Dave Wood...
My daughter even flew to Costa Rica in 2011 to learn first-hand the secrets of becoming an entrepreneur through online marketing.
And what we are now discovering as the real importance of entrepreneurship is far more than we had initially figured...
The real secret to becoming an entrepreneur has to do with mindset and personal development. It begins with believing in yourself. Now, this is right up my alley since I'm a psychology grad who loves to dive into phenomenal ideas such as the Law of Attraction and the Power of Intention.
And now, in today's economy, I'm becoming more aware of the importance of entrepreneurship...
Some people think that learning how to market online could be a waste of money. And, in all honesty, if you don't apply what they teach you, then it is wasteful.
However, if you discipline yourself to learn these principles as if you would learn if you were going to college, then there could be nothing more rewarding. And, contrary to going to college, you won't wind up with that huge college loan by the time you start making real money!
I have to laugh at myself now when I remember how I thought, "well, at least she has her college degree"...
Because everything she's accomplished to make the money she's made has had nothing to do with what she learned in college, nor does it have to do with having a degree. And, when you think about it, what "guarantee" is there once you get that "real job".
Beware of people telling you to "go back to college" and "go get a real job" once you decide to take this path...
Remember, Dave Wood himself had to listen to his family telling him these things. You need to take a look at the people who are saying these things - do they have a lot of time freedom and make residual income at the same time? Why not listen to the people out there who are successful in making their lives work in ways where they can do anything they want any time they want?
